Mango Sweet Tea

For me, almost anything is better if you add mango to it. Sweet tea is no different. This delightfully simple recipe is one you can easily whip up before a special meal or just to have on hand for those hot summer days. What’s more, you can easily adjust the sugar content if you like things a little sweeter.

Tips and Tricks

This recipe is easy to adapt! Want more mango? Add another one. Need more or less sugar? Adjust how much I call for in the recipe. You can also add less water if you want a tea that’s a bit stronger.

You can use any mangoes you have available. I used ‘Champagne’ mangoes as that’s what my supermarket carries, but it’s been tested with other varieties and was just as delicious!

You can certainly use other tea bags if there’s one you think would go better for this.

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe mangoes, peeled and cut into 1” pieces (pieces don’t need to be exact)

  • 9 cups water, divided

  • 1/2 cup organic cane sugar

  • 2 bags black cold brew tea

Directions:

Place your mangoes in a small saucepan along with the sugar. Add four cups of water and heat to boiling on the stove over medium heat. Once boiling, lower the heat until it’s at a gentle simmer. Let simmer for 5 minutes. Taking a potato masher, mash the mangoes in the sauce pan.

Take off the heat and add the two tea bags. Let steep for 8 - 10 minutes, or until the tea is as strong as you’d like it.

Place your ice in a 32oz. pitcher you intend to serve your tea in. Using a mesh strainer, pour the contents of the saucepan into the pitcher. Add the remaining 5 cups of cold water (or however much water you need to fill up the pitcher - it might not be exactly 5 cups’ worth). Place in the fridge to chill further before serving. It’s best if you give this at least an hour or two in the fridge.
